In June 2024, The Great Wall welcomed a special guest – Dina Boluarte, President of the Republic of Peru. This was not only a state visit but also a symbolic handshake between two ancient civilizations.

　　On the afternoon of June 29, Boluarte and her entourage ascended the Badaling Great Wall in Yanqing District, Beijing. The Great Wall, China’s largest and most extensive cultural heritage site, spans over two millennia and tens of thousands of kilometers. It stands as one of humanity’s most magnificent architectural wonders and an unparalleled historical-cultural landscape, which was listed as one of China’s first UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1987. The Great Wall embodies the indomitable spirit of the Chinese nation, its collective strength, and the unyielding patriotism of its people. It has become a defining symbol of the Chinese nation and a key emblem of Chinese civilization.

　　Standing atop the Great Wall, Boluarte was awestruck by the majestic views. Each brick and stone of the Wall holds the enduring history and profound wisdom of the Chinese nation. In the guestbook, she inscribed: “It is a great pleasure to visit the Great Wall, a wonder of the world, and the Great Wall is also a Wall of peace.”
